To clarify: incremental search is the very slow one. Normal search is not as slow.

We're talking about options here. They should be easy to set, and they certainly aren't if you need to do type conversion/parsing on your part. I fail to see why this would be dangerous in any way. Also, this behavior was as described in Sublime Text 1.
I think this is the only one feature I want implemented... While Userecho is a fine place to collect ideas, it doesn't work so well to discuss them. I hope popularity doesn't evolve into the main factor for a feature to make it into the editor.
I'm generally against adding GUI layers to Sublime, but I suppose this will be a common request. Maybe better docs would suffice to clarify each option's purpose.
Python's json module wouldn't work with comments, so that's a big drawback. I agree comments are useful sometimes.
