I just loaded a 100~MB geojson file (55k lines, 97m chars) in 3126 and it loaded in 12~ seconds - and this is on a crappy office desktop far less powerful than your laptop. Of course, I'm on windows, so it could be an OSX build issue - or it could be an issue with OSX (or your laptop) itself.
